When Gallery Bistro opened its doors in spring of 1997, Downtown Springfield was a much different place than it is today. Few visitors to the area were enticed to stay.

The once-thriving downtown was neglected and in need of revitalization. One business that stood out to passersby was the Walnut Street Gallery — a forerunner in downtown’s current comeback.

Chefs Peter Tinson and James Clary saw an opportunity that couldn’t be missed. Together the culinary duo decided that Downtown Springfield would turnaround; and, they were determined to bring a fresh new approach to dining in Springfield.

Gallery Bistro soon opened downstairs from the Walnut Street Gallery. After eight years exceeding our guests’ expectations in food, wine, atmosphere and service, Gallery Bistro has earned its reputation as downtown’s masterpiece restaurant.

Our contemporary cuisine is an eclectic mix of Asian, French, English, Spanish and Down-home. Friendly, attentive and knowledgeable service is our trademark. Combined with our extensive wine collection and massive martini repertoire, Gallery Bistro ensures a fabulous dining experience.

Gallery Bistro is located on Historic Walnut Street in Downtown Springfield. Just two doors down from the Landers Theatre and next to the Vandivort Theatre. Gallery Bistro is the place to go for dinner or light fare before the show, or after the curtain falls. Late night cocktails and an appetizer — or our famous mushroom sage soup — are favorites of Springfield theater-goers.
